I illustrated a children’s book! The author is my friend Andy Male, who I’ve known since Mrs. Brush’s second grade class at Lewis Sands Elementary.

Go Preemies! Inspirational Stories of the World’s Most Famous Preemies was itself inspired by Andy’s own experience with the complications of being born three months early; he spent the first part of his life in Rainbow Babies and Childrens’ Hospital’s NICU unit. I was actually born six weeks early myself, but I was lucky enough to not have any complications to speak of. It was very important to Andy to document these historical figures in the context that, while being a preemie isn’t easy, many people have fought through that adversity to make their mark on the world.
